Professional workflows & pipelines


When investigating other professionals, I became familiar with different workflows and pipelines that were being used and could identify which ones suited me while still producing excellent results. This research helped me know which tools I should use and what can be achieved with them.

I found that these designers would often use World Machine to create the landscape, export the height map to UE4, give it a smart material, use splat maps to coordinate the landscape and then use procedural techniques to populate the terrain with foliage and trees. This workflow is fast and very optimized as the scene has high detail with a light load.
